AI Is Cutting Jobs Everywhere, So I Built an Agent to Help!

AI is cutting jobs everywhere, and the disruption is closer than most people think. Ghost job listings, instant rejections from AI scanners, applications disappearing into a void. Sound familiar?

In this episode of Run Your Private Practice with AI, I walk through exactly what I built to help fight back against that noise. Two custom AI agent skills, developed inside Claude Cowork, that automate the job search process from finding qualified listings to rewriting a resume for each one. And yes, this applies to you too, whether you are pivoting your practice, building tools for clients, or just trying to understand what is actually possible with AI right now.

AI Tips You Don’t Want to Miss:

  • How to build a job search agent that scans 50+ sites every morning and rates listings by fit.
  • Why transferable skill files let you move your AI workflows between platforms when credits run out or performance drops.
  • How therapists can package these same agent-building skills to create tools, sell them, or distribute them at scale.

[00:00:00] Hey everybody. Welcome back to another episode of Run Your Private Practice with ai. This has been another crazy week of ai. I just read an article, meta laid off 8,000 employees basically to make up for the fact that they’re employing AI and a lot of their systems. I think they hired these people to get all the AI set up and now the AI is gonna be running a lot of things.

[00:00:22] So I just literally read that article and I keep reading just article after article about layoffs and how all of our industries are being disrupted, including ours. The therapist industry. I’ve talked about this on some of these episodes. It’s real. It’s here, it’s now. I actually wrote a book about it, which I’m excited about.

[00:00:40] I’ve been working on it for a while. It’s out in publishing right now and even the publishing company I’m using is using a ton of AI technology to help with the publishing part, to like speed it up, make it faster. Normally this would take like six to nine months to be able to get a book published, you know, from start to finish, that kind of thing after you’ve finished the book and then edit it and do all the stuff you have to do to do that. That timeline’s even sped up.

[00:01:03] So I’m excited to say that it’ll be out in about maybe three months was their estimate on it now that they’ve got the manuscript. But anyway, all the industries are getting disrupted, including the IT industry, you know, I mean ai, a lot of the agents are taking over and, just becoming more and more efficient.

[00:01:19] I’m using agents that talk about that all the time on this podcast, so I thought I would share, you guys know how I like to share what I’m doing with AI and how I’m using and that sort of thing. I wanna share like a personal story. My boyfriend, you guys might have heard me talk about him before, but we live in Airbnbs.

[00:01:35] We travel the world. He has to work remotely, obviously, for us to be able to continue to live this lifestyle. He’s in IT. He’s semi-retired, but what he does is he’ll work for a little bit on a, like an IT contract and then he’ll take some time off and work a little bit and take some time off. It’s really great ’cause then we get to enjoy all the places that we’re going.

[00:01:53] But now it’s like, okay, time to, you know, work for a little while. That’s where things, so he’s trying to work normally before he would just put his resume online and he would have like 15 job opportunities, like right on his doorstep. So it’s not going that way this time. And you know me, you guys know how I am.

[00:02:11] I decided I was gonna start researching this and try to figure out what’s going on with this. So I wanna read you what I found. He’s not a programmer, he’s like a data architect. He’s like a genius with IT stuff. He’s got 30 years of experience essentially of like any kind of data warehouse database.

[00:02:27] And he’s very like a high commodity, really. But I started researching this ’cause I’m like, what is going on with even the IT disruption, right? Essentially it said a hundred thousand jobs in the IT sector have been eliminated since December of 2025. So right now I’m recording this in like late April, 2026 and we’re already seeing that disruption and we’re seeing, you know, a lot of these, it’s really weird online, A lot of like ZipRecruiter and Indeed and Dice and all that.

[00:02:56] They’re like ghost jobs. They’re not even real jobs. Like you put your application out there and then the next day they, they decline your application because the AI scanning in doesn’t see the right key word, and then the next day the job is backed, listed as a new job. So there’s a lot of really weird stuff going on.

[00:03:10] You guys know, I like to dig down these rabbit balls. Anyway, I thought I would share how I decided to handle this because you guys know how I am. It’s like, okay, there’s a problem. I wanna figure out a way to fix this. Right? Because what’s happening is he, and a lot of people, not just in the IT industry, are putting job applications out there and they just aren’t hearing anything back.

[00:03:32] So it’s like application, application, application. So I was like, I wonder if I can make an AI agent to make this process less painful. Because essentially you have to like identify a job that you’re qualified for that’s been listed within a time period. ‘Cause you know, there’s old jobs out there that probably aren’t even real jobs anymore, or maybe they’ve been billed and they haven’t taken the listing down.

[00:03:51] You have to submit your resume, right? So you have to, like, for each one, you’ve gotta like go and fix your resume. So you’ve gotta like find the keywords change your resume to bit, you know, the job description. You know how that is when you’re searching for a job. This is what everybody has to do when you’re like fixing your resume and that sort of thing.

[00:04:06] But imagine having to do that like 60 times a day because of the AI algorithms and the AI disruption in whatever industry you’re working for. So. I was like, I’m gonna see you if I can fix an agent, like create an AI agent that can like take that workload off for somebody that’s looking for a job.

[00:04:21] So I’m sharing this to say, one, if you’re looking for a job, this might be a, a process you wanna do, or just to inspire you around ways that you can use ai. So of course I took it to Claude Cowork, my Claude Cowork, and I was like, here’s the problem. I explained the problem. I’m like, I want to develop a set of AI skills that can work together to help somebody in this position.

[00:04:41] And I explained the job situation, and you’re having to put 60 applications in a day. You might not even hear back from a single one of them and they disappear, you know, the whole thing. So together with Claude cohort, I developed some skills, and you guys have heard me talk about skills before.

[00:04:56] A skill is like a very technical markdown file that you can take from agent to agent to agent, or to ai to AI to ai. I built it to deploy with agents. So this thing now, these two scale I created, the first one goes out and I did this with Claude, right? It’s vibe coding. Have you guys not heard of that?

[00:05:14] Vibe coding’s, where you go back and forth and you have to create something that works really well for you. So this first one goes out and searches 50 different top job sites that. In his industry, he’s like in, you know, healthcare industry with it and that sort of thing. So it searches all the major healthcare systems all the Medicaid, Medicare, NCOs.

[00:05:34] It’s got a list of like 50, and I developed that with Claude. What’s the list? So every morning it’s 7:00 AM He clicks the button or you can sign it up as a task and Claude. He goes out, searches, comes back with a report basically of the jobs that it finds that meet the criteria. So we obviously want remote work.

[00:05:52] We obviously have a salary range. We’re looking for certain criteria that matches only what’s on his resume instead of just like some random like IT job like is very specific. I trained it as a skill. So it does all of this. It goes out, brings it back, pulls it in, adds it to like a dashboard that it created essentially in the dashboard every morning, like refreshes itself and says, here’s the green jobs, the yellow jobs, and the red jobs.

[00:06:15] Like it rates them around how qualified each position is for him and what he’s looking for. And that sort of things. So it brings this report back in, and then there’s a button essentially on there that says, here’s the button to go apply for the job if you wanna apply for it. Or you can deploy the second skill that I built, which then reads the job listing and it goes out.

[00:06:36] You know, Claude can go out and take over your computer Claude cowork can read open tabs, that sort of thing. It goes out, finds the job that you selected, pulls it, gets the job description and all of that takes his very detailed resume. And this is a very technical resume with everything that he’s learned over the last 30 years and can do, adjust it.

[00:06:54] Scans for the right keywords in the job listing, rewrites the resume, puts a new resume in his Word doc on his computer. And then he has a whole new resume that he can go and submit essentially for this job. And the other thing that second skill does is it builds its own dashboard essentially. And the dashboard is like, okay, you apply for this job on this date, you should follow up on this date.

[00:07:15] So it’s like, it’s like a tracker, essentially every effort he’s putting into this. So he can use that to go back and reference and kind of guide him around what he’s gonna do next. it works. It works amazing. So what I did, I built this on my Claude. So this is for people listening, right? Therapists, if you’re going into the coaching space or something like that, you can build agents like this that are super helpful and turn them into skill files, like, skill.md files.

[00:07:41] You can turn ’em into that and then download them. That’s what I did. I downloaded the two skills I built and an instruction manual on, on how to install them. I had it basically upload to, you know, I put it in my email. I sent ’em an email with the files in it. They’re not these really huge files. They’re markdown.

[00:07:57] So they’re little, so they’re very transferrable to other systems. Sent it to him. But we got up the next day, ’cause that took me, I mean that took me about probably two hours to build these skills out. Got on Claude cowork on his desktop, he uploaded the skills and the instruction manual, and then it had a instruction set on what it’s supposed to do.

[00:08:16] So now he goes into Claude work and he says, run, job hunt skill. And it goes out and it does this every single morning. Looks for new jobs that have been listed to meet his criteria, brings back the report, then he hits apply to this one, it does his resume and all of that.

[00:08:28] Now the second skill I built actually could, the agent actually could open that website and go and put the information on the website. ’cause a lot of these forms, it’s even more tedious, right? And you guys know this with anything you apply for anything like that, you have to go out, open the website, and then it’s like upload your resume and then you’ve gotta like fill in the fields.

[00:08:50] It’s like a thousand fields and you’ve gotta say the same thing over and over and over again. Now, part of the skill knows that it can go do that, but we, we chose not to do that. And the reason why is because it’s expensive, right? So the more things you have the agent do is the more expensive it gets. So.

[00:09:05] The skills were working fine. And he has like the $20 Claude version. Well, $17 a month Claude version, but ran out of the memory very quickly. So what do we have to do, right? We have to upgrade to the a hundred dollars plan a month. So that’s how they get you perplexity computer. You guys ever meet rave about that?

[00:09:20] I already met my limits for that. Within seven days of my new monthly credits replenishing. So these aI agents are expensive to do these things, so a lot of it it can do. You might not wanna do, do, you may not want it to do because it costs money to do it. So those are all things to think about. But I guess I’m sharing a story to say, one again, AI disruption is real.

[00:09:42] It’s also disrupting our industry. And again, I wrote a book that’s gonna help, it’s like a field guide on how to navigate it and not, lose your career basically to ai. And two, to give you an idea, like if there’s a problem. You can go to Claude or one of these and say, help me solve this with a workable solution.

[00:10:00] You know that that’s gonna cut down to so much time with him having to go out, search the internet, look for jobs, like go out literally manually to all these different websites. This thing returns results in about like five minutes, where that would take him all day. You know, go to each of these websites, see if they’ve got a new listing, read through each listing to see which one he is qualified for.

[00:10:19] Then decide how do I apply to it? That’s all bundled into the skill really quickly. So saying that, but also to give you ideas, right? Because as therapists we’ve got to pivot, we’ve got to have other skill sets, we’ve gotta have other ways. We’re bringing money in because clients are using AI for mental health processing, and they’re not coming to therapists as much as they used to.

[00:10:39] And it’s a trend that’s just continuing to go up. So we have got to figure out a way to survive this as well. so that’s to give you some ideas and maybe ideas for your clients, or do you have a specialty and you wanna learn how to build skills yourself to give to other people so they’re transferable and they can have agents that help them in their business, that sort of thing.

[00:10:58] These are all ways to pivot. Now, as therapists, we have a ton of assets in our brain. We have tons of ways to help people. You can use it in this way too, like, find a problem, identify it. Go to one of these computers, build out an agent or a skill that an agent can use. Take it, download it, and then sell it to people or customize them to certain people.

[00:11:17] I do that in my coaching containers all the time. I’ve got another coaching client coming up, starting in mid-May. We’re gonna be building an app on a very specific modality that they teach that they can mass distribute worldwide instead of just to their clients ’cause right now they’re just using these interventions like one-to-one with their clients and they’re like, we need to get this out to the world.

[00:11:36] So that’s what we’re gonna do. We’re gonna build an app out in a way to deploy it so people can just log into the app and use their modalities and their interventions themselves ’cause this is the future. So I wanted to tell you guys about that, what I’m doing with AI right now. Give you some ideas.

[00:11:51] If you have any questions about this, of course reach out people in the clinical AI club. I am gonna obviously be talking more about this by in April the module was based on skills. What are they? How to build them out. But now what we’re seeing is these skills are like multi-level type things. So if you have a suite of skills that can do multiple things, you can take each of these skills over to your AI agent and tell your agent to do this step by step by step process in a very specific way.

[00:12:18] Or if you get sick of Claude, you’ve still got the skills, you could take it over to Manus and have Manus do the same process with its computer over there. Or if you run outta credits like I did with perplexity, I took a workflow that I have perplexity doing. I turned it into a skill. I brought it over to Manus.

[00:12:34] Now, Manus is doing that for me because I’m not gonna pay the higher tier for perplexity for the next 15 days. Basically, I’m gonna just take it over somewhere else and use it over there. But that’s the thing. They’re transferable. So you can download it, take it somewhere else, depending on if you don’t like the platform anymore, if it stops performing well, like chatGPT is not a good performer anymore like it used to be.

[00:12:54] Or you run outta credits, you wanna use it somewhere else, you wanna try it in a different place. You wanna see how different AI handles the same problem. You can do that now with these multi-step skills that you develop and sort of piece together into like a package. So I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you guys have any questions about this and start thinking about how you’re gonna pivot because every single industry is being disrupted by ai. We’ve gotta figure out how to survive it. All right, I’ll talk to you guys later.
